Style is subjective. What works for one person may not work for another and it’s down to you to decide what you love, what you don’t, cuts that flatter you and items that will always look good. It’s not an easy task, but finding your signature style is the key to being happy in the clothes you wear and feeling confident.

There are a few ways to go about finding your personal style, it involves a lot of experimenting! The important thing to remember is to keep an open mind, pushing yourself outside your comfort zone can open your eyes to a type of style that you never imagined you would love. But try it!

Understand Your Body Shape

I#m all for people wearing whatever they want and rocking it regardless. But it’s no secret that some clothes shapes suit some body shapes more than others. If you want to look truly flawless, you need to dress for your body type.  Accentuating your natural body shapes and wearing cuts that flatter your highlights are always sure to make sure you always look good.

Find Your Hero Items

Your hero items may be a very specific item of clothing, a colour that works incredibly well or even just an accessory you always rock. Whatever it is, once you’ve found it, flaunt it. Own that piece of style and make it your own. Utilise what you’ve got and make sure to tie every outfit you ever wear with your hero item.

Make a Mood Board

This tip is more on the inspirational side of your personal style plan. Going through magazines or Pinterest is a great way to find out what you actually like. It can be overwhelming to go into a shop and just see thousands upon thousands of items of clothing for sale and when it’s all laid out in front of you it’s easy to get confused about what it is you’re looking for. Organise your inspiration by putting all the outfits you like the look of in one place. Once you’ve got everything together, you should be able to start noticing trends and themes, from there, you can start identifying your vibe.

Clear Out Your Wardrobe

Doing a wardrobe audit can help to cleanse yourself of all bad style habits and start afresh with pieces and garments that you actually like and enjoy wearing. Aim for less than 50 pieces of clothing in your wardrobe to create an efficient and organised styling bank.  A good rule of thumb is to throw something away everytime you buy a new item.

Budget Shop

A lot of us don’t have expendable income to fritter away on new clothes every day of the week. This doesn’t mean that you can’t find your true style and experiment to get to where you want to be. charity shops and thrift stores are a great place to start to find cheap clothes to experiment with. Only shop to fill the holes in your wardrobe and try to stay away from impulse purchases. Apps like DePop and Zaful are also great for finding good deals.
